This is my last Substack. I will be relocating in the weeks ahead to a platform that isn’t so at peace with allowing Nazis to use it to raise money. I will update y’all accordingly and leave this archive in place in the admittedly unlikely hope that Substack’s owners might yet their moral shit together. But it will cease to be an active concern. I had a long and somewhat indignant post planned but the hour is late and people will do what they do.
Until I pitch my new camp, please come by and visit at Bluesky, which is the best Twitter replacement to come along, smart and funny and generally full of decent folks.
I also wanted to share two upcoming events I’m very excited about:
On March 25, I will be in conversation with my dear friend Marie Mutsuki Mockett at Bookworks in Pacific Grove to discuss her wonderful new novel The Tree Doctor. It’s been scooping up tons of early buzz ranging from Oprah to the Washington Post. If you’re in this part of California, please come on down.
And on April 1, I will in back in LA for an event at UCLA with the wonderful Cathleen Schine to discuss her new novel Künstlers in Paradise. We’ll be at Royce Hall at 4 pm, reservations are required but the event is free. It would be wonderful see some LA friends there, I miss you all a great deal!
Lastly, there remain a handful of slots for my annual writers retreat, along with new BIPOC and hardship scholarships, so check it out and spend your Easter weekend writing in paradise.
So long and thanks for all the fish.
Be sure to let us know your new venue. No pressure!!
